"What Was Pythagoras Doing?"
A testament to one of the Greats. This was the guy who brought to the Western Civilizations the idea of using simple whole numbered ratios to determine what frequencies sound good when played together.
To this day, this idea is the foundation of all our temperaments and scales. Even Equal Temperament uses 12 frequency sets which resemble Pythagorean ratios (You could instead have a 19 note Equal Temperament, but it might not sound as good.)
That being said, it's a pain to play in Pythagorean temperaments these days. A lot of instruments can't change temperaments, and a lot of computer programs don't let you program the exact frequencies a synthesizer will play.
This song was made using Audacity's sine wave making abilities.
